The committee did narrow the book’s availability by restricting it to grades 9 -12. In this recent committee action, the book “Tricks,” was reviewed but not recommended to be placed on the banned list. “Tricks” was included on the review list. Superintendent Frank Rodriguez pulled nearly 100 books from Beaufort County school libraries for committee review. During an October public comment period, a parent read excerpts of the book in an effort to get it banned. New York Times bestselling novel titled “Tricks” tells the story of five teenagers who fall into prostitution and is an example of a book some parents want reviewed and banned. The committees recommended limiting access to three and taking no action on four others. Book review committees voted Thursday night to return seven more books to the Beaufort County school library shelves, some with additional grade restrictions.
